Could you teach someone to drive?

Being an approved driving instructor (ADI) is a brilliant career choice. You are your own boss. Manage your own timetable. Work as often as you like and whenever you like.

As with all the best things in life, training to be an ADI takes time, effort and commitment. However training with Digby Driving School has its benefits. Look at what is involved below and get in touch if you are interested.

Part 1

Theory test

Take an enhanced theory test. Similar to the one learner drivers take but with a few extra sections about teaching and learning. And a higher pass mark of course.

Learning for this is largely self directed, but Digby Driving School can help you with study materials.

Once you have passed the theory, you can move on to the practical in part 2...

Part 2

Driving ability

Pass an enhanced driving test. Similar to the learner test, but a much higher standard of course.

Digby Driving School offers driver training sessions to get you up to standard. Each session will be 1:1 and entirely car-based. No classroom or remote learning. Your lessons will be entirely tailored to suit your needs. Part 2&3 lessons cost £40 per hour and most experienced drivers take around 10 hours to reach the required standard to pass part 2 and progress to part 3...

Part 3

Teaching competence

Spend around 35 hours of 1:1, bespoke training to teach students to drive.

This is where the fun really starts. And the best part is that you can earn and learn at the same time. Digby Driving School will supply you with real students who will pay you the normal driving lessons rate (currently £38ph).

Through supervised lesson planning and bespoke feedback you can hone your teaching skills during your part 3 training to become the best driving instructor you can be.

The training ends with an observed lesson by a member of the DVSA who will check your standard of competence and assuming they are satisfied will issue a full ADI licence.

And then...?

That's up to you.

You will automatically be franchised with Digby Driving School for 6 months. During this time, we will supply you with as many students as you like. We can fill your diary in a week of qualifying if that's what you want. Spend those 6 months building your own reputation as a great driving instructor. Ask for and receive as much support as you want.

We can also help you set up and manage your finances if required.

It's a steep learning curve and we are sure you will find those first 6 months both challenging and rewarding. We're here to help!

After the first 6 months of automatic frachising we hope that you will  choose to remain with us. But if not: no hard feelings. We simply ask for one month's notice to quit the franchise and then we will wish you well on your journey into being a fully independent ADI
